Lina Medina: The youngest mother at the age of five

A bizarre arose in 1939, when an increasing abdominal size of a five year old girl, thought to have been as a result of tumor turned out to be a nine month old pregnancy. Tiburelo Medina and Victoria Losea who were the parents of Lina Medina were shocked; the attention of the world was drawn to the country of Peru.

A month and a half after the original diagnosis, Medina at the age of 5 years and 7 months, gave birth to a boy named Gerardo Medina (the boy was named after Lina’s doctor) by a caesarean section on May 14, 1939, necessitated by her small pelvis, which made her the youngest known person in history to give birth. During the caesarean operation, the surgeons who performed the operations said Lina already had fully mature sexual organs from precocious puberty.

Gerardo weighed 2.7 kg (6.0lb; 0.43 st) at birth. Gerardo was raised believing that Medina was his sister, until he was 10 years of age, when it was revealed to Him that Lina was his mother. Medina has never revealed the father of the child nor the circumstances of her impregnation. Medina’s son, Gerardo grew up healthy and died at the age of 40.
