Rainbow eucalyptus |
Rainbow eucalyptus (botanical name
Eucalyptus deglupta) is known for its unique multi-hued bark. It belongs to the family Myrtaceae. At different times the patches of the outer bark are shed annually revealing a bright green inner bark. This then darkens and matures to surprisingly give different colours such as blue, purple, orange and then maroon tones.
It is naturally distributed through New Guines, Seram, New Britain, Sulawesi and Mindanao. It is mainly grown for pulpwood used in paper making. It is a landscape design element due to its multi-coloured streaks that cover the trunk.
